The buzz around Robert Pattinson joining the cast of Dune: Part Three was palpable early this year, but confirmation was scarce. Now, Pattinson himself has broken his silence, revealing his experience filming in the scorching desert for the highly anticipated sequel.
In an interview with Jennifer Lawrence for IndieWire, Pattinson shared his thoughts on the intense desert shoots: "When I was doing Dune, it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn't question anything. And it was so relaxing, like my brain wasn't operating, I didn't have a single functioning brain cell. I was just listening to Denis [Villeneuve]: 'Whatever you want!'"
While his role in the film remains under wraps, speculation points to Pattinson playing Scytale, a pivotal figure in the plot to overthrow Paul Atreides. The cast of Dune: Part Three is a star-studded affair, with Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Florence as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke bring the roles of Leto II and Ghanima, Paul and Chani's twin children.
Director Denis Villeneuve, who helmed the first two installments, has a unique vision for the third film. He clarifies, "First, it's important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych. It was a pair of movies that adapted the first book. That's done and finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it's not a trilogy. It's strange to say, but if I go back there, it's to do something that feels different and has its own identity."
Villeneuve further explains that the third film will explore the story 12 years after the events of Part Two, with a fresh narrative arc for the characters. "While it's the same world, it's a new film with new circumstances," he says. "And it will finish the Paul Atreides arc."
Beyond Dune, Pattinson is set to star in Die My Love, a new film from Lynne Ramsay. The movie follows Grace and Jackson, a young couple struggling to adapt to rural Montana life and the challenges of parenthood. With Grace's isolation and psychological distress taking a toll on their marriage, the film promises a gripping exploration of a couple's descent into uncertainty. Die My Love is set for release on November 7.
